Babs had said to call the other yacht again at night, which was possible because they were still in reach of the vhf. The whole group got together this time for the conversation.. It turns out they are Canadian, at some stage they asked why we had sailed a circle around them at which we all had to laugh, because we had been wondering all day why they were making a circle around us. In the end it’s not quite clear who circled who because we both jibed at some stage so our paths kept crossing. They talked some more about food and that all the yummy things had run out, at which point Sander and I got some teens staring at us that said ” well see!, we aren’t that bad!” Since the beginning of the trip we have been warning our young crew – that if they eat the yummy things right away, it will be gone and we won’t be able to buy new at sea.. Little use it had and so eventually we had to hide things in order to still make some sort of a varied meal. But we mostly let them figure it out themselves, as we aren’t the once that ate everything right away. It’s fun to see the teens go trough this process, and after all I am more then used to just eat plain pasta 😉 In the end everyone got to say hi, after we had some good laughs with the crew of the other yacht. Somewhere during the night we eventually lost them. The night started out clear but ended in a big squall that mostly brought pouring rain and shifting winds. Right now we are back to the usual sunny days we have been enjoying for a while now. 🙂

Hi Laura, probably the other Canadian crew was not that much eperienced in keeping their food better together. And you get now many advices for the education of Tim. You and Sander see, what your young crew is used as they have never experienced the need of keeping the good things a bit together. You can start to teach this to Tim already from early times on.
But otherwise I think your crew is a very homogene crew. I have some experience with youth camps and it has taken us always sometime to find together – longer than your crew. Rudi
Hi Laura, thank you so much for your almost daily updates. How do you upload them being out so far at sea?
And everybody is getting a real break from social media now I guess. That’s great. Just you and the sea and the sky and your mates and…well…so many good things. All the best to you and your crew on your second half to the Americas! Ben from Lake Konstanz
