After a couple of beautiful and fun days in Bermuda it’s time for our crossing to the Azores. We had waited for a little front to pass us and leave in it’s wake, hopefully giving us good winds for at least the start of our 1800nm crossing.
We left Bermuda yesterday at 9am after having cleared out. It was a beautiful day, warm, sunny and not much wind – so we hoisted all our sails and watched Bermuda slowly disappear in our wake. From the amount of boats visible on the AIS around us, also heading for the Azores, we gathered that more people had similar ideas about this being a good weather window. most of them have disappeared of our AIS signal by now, except for one who is following us closely, to far away to visually see them though. Because of the systems around us the seas are a bit choppy, not very high, just some cross waves which has made it a bit of a bumpy ride so far, but the good progress makes up for that 🙂 The teens were smart and pre-cooked dinner for two days so they don’t have to be down below for too long on the first days which is always nice. Today we have some more wind and clouds, with a watery sun coming through. It actually feels nice, those of us who are not prone to seasickness are enjoying reading a book or playing games, the rest of us ( including me) are still looking intently at the horizon most of the time 🙂
But I personally never get bored of that, the ocean is different every day, and I love to see the wind play on top of the waves and the occasional bird giving us a show of flying skills.
