So far the weather has been amazing, great winds and mostly blue skies. Yesterday there was a lot of low cloud all the way around us, but exactly above us we had blue sky, a perfect circle of blue, just for us. We felt special :). The waves now come from one direction, more or less – but it’s still a bit bumpy and rolly now that we are sailing downwind with the main and partially furled genua boomed out on the opposite site. Since Bermuda we have been seeing a lot of Portugese Man O’ Wars, They look a bit like Jellyfish but are actually a Sonosophore – they have an inflatable gas bulge with sail that they can regulate and they have been sailing bravely besides us, also on their way to the Azores and beyond. With the choppy waves they often capsize though and it’s really cool to see how they straighten themselves again and keep on going. We’ve also been seeing quiet a lot of shipping traffic, most of it on the AIS but yesterday a tanker passed us at about one mile distance. It’s always nice to see something that has human life on it as well out here 🙂 Ronja and Ollie have been taking a two hour night watch together, giving Sander and me a little bit more rest and told me they saw big flashes of light in the water which we then identified as hunting squid! =D So, we are moving forward steadily enjoying every beautiful day we get out here, 1280nm to go, almost on a third 🙂
