Sailing from Stornoway to Orkney and the Fair Isle.
We arrived in Stornoway the may 29th and us teens spent the day exploring the town. Later that night Lucas arrived and we had a fun evening playing spoons ( A card game involving spoons). The next day we did a restock of food, rig checks and some maintenance, in the afternoon we celebrated Yinchengs birthday by playing guppy games in the park and eating cake. On the 31st of May we rented vans and explored the island. That evening we had a treat of seeing two Risso’s dolphins swimming in the harbour next to Guppy.
The next day we left Stornoway and sailed overnight to Kirkwall, orkneys. Us teens experienced real rocky waves for the first time. We arrived in Kirkwall on a Sunday and we spent the day cleaning and exploring the town. The town is a very old and sparsely populated. Monday we rode the bus to Mull head and saw the Gloupe and explored the cliffs, we saw amazing views of the coastline. Tuesday morning we had a tour of the Saint Magnus cathedral. In the afternoon we started the sail to sheep isle ( North Rondaldsay) which is famous for primitive seaweed eating sheep. But quickly decided that that was not the stop for us due to weather and we went on to fair isle. We arrived to fair Isle right before sunset, we quickly docked and hiked up the hill to watch puffins go into their hole for the night. When we got back to the boat we found that three of our lines had snapped due to swell coming into the harbour. Luckily we had tripled all the lines already and Guppy was safe. Still we decided to leave the island of fair Isle and sailed four hours through the night to Grutnessvoe, Shetlands where we are currently anchored. This morning we woke up to the sweet smell of American Pancakes which Josef and Yincheng were making in the Galley. 🙂
