Around 2pm a vague blob appears on the horizon, Babs immediately blows the Horn and yells, Land Ahoy! Since then time has slowed down onboard, as everyone stares at the blob that only very slowly gets bigger.. it will still take many hours before Guppy will be there. We spotted the island from about 30nm distance, Guppy is going at about 6knots that means it still takes 5 hours to reach the island and a couple more to the bay.. The day continues to be very squally with periods of rain and very shifting winds, which keep us all busy and let time go faster.. There seems to be very mixed feelings onboard at the moment. Some can’t wait to reach land whereas others could keep sailing forever – me included 😉

Oh yes, the last miles are the longest! Dear Laura, thank you very much for this exciting news. On the garmin tracker I can see, meanwhile you have reached Barbados. Congrats to you all. Special appreciation for the young crew! Georg
Proficiat Guppy!
This has been a great tour for all on board. Only few can say they have crossed the Atlantic by sailboat; most people only dream about it, myself included. Anyway, I know that my daughter belongs to the teens, that would have stayed on board longer, but unfortunately her school is calling for her again……Maybe in a few years we will make this crossing together. I’ll keep my fingers crossed!!
First goals accomplished! Guppy XL has crossed the Atlantic..jihaa!! Here in the Netherlands we’ve stared at the garmin daily, a blue arrow on a big wide ocean. Now you have arrived! What an achievement! Congratulations to the young crew!!
Hi Guppy Crew! Its been great following your Atlantic passage… I’m glad that the crossing went well :). Your blog has been great to read and I hope you all are doing well. Best of wishes- Victoria
Well Laura, now it shows a bit, who might become a sailor like you. But I have also full understanding for those, who cannot wait to step on the dry land. You all have achieved a target together and remind also yourself. As you have written in your blog of the circumnavigation, you have always performed a dance, when you have reached another shore. You have liked most your longest parts on sea (Darwin – Durban and Port Elizabeth – Sint Maarten) but you have also liked the moment, when you have reached. Rudi
