We had a lovely crossing from the Netherlands to Inverness, a journey of 450nm which took us a little less than 4 days. The first day out we did have some sloppy choppy all over the place north sea waves which caused the general meeting point to be at the railing. The next day however, the seas calmed down and everyone felt much better. For the remainder of the journey we had light winds but most of the time just enough to glide along under sail. I loved the nights out at sea, so quiet and calm. We saw some dolphins, a false killer whale and countless birds. All with all it was the perfect conditions to start our first overnight sails with the new group. We have now safely arrived in Inverness and are preparing to continue our voyage through the Caledonian Canal. This is a journey that Sander and I have been looking forward to for a long time. Neither of us have been in Scotland before and from what we have seen so far it’s already amazing! I also love the long days! I don’t have very good nightvision so having the long hours of daylight has been great. It’s such a big contrast to the tropics in which we have been sailing the last years, where the sun is up in a matter of minutes. It easily takes hours before it’s completely light in these latitudes.
