Today has been one of those typical trade wind days. Blue ocean, blue sky, warm and sun. A squall in the evening or night and a steady breeze from behind. Our young crew are on 4hr shifts, so that means 4hrs on 8hrs off. The duties like cleaning lunch and dinner have been divided into different groups but everyone always has one duty each day. The free time they read, play guitar, work on their school or do some odd jobs they like onboard. Most of them find that the days fly by. In fact they have a hard time doing all the things they want to do on a day. So far we all have had a very nice passage with a rather slow windless start. On the big sea chart that lays below we plot our position everyday – it’s getting close to Barbados now and I can sense the anticipation and excitement to reach the new island, whereas before there had been a tranquil “we will get there when we get there” attitude.
