Last night I slept very well as the sea was a bit calmer so I did not have to keep my body stiff all the time in my berth. I now sleep for one or two hours at a time relying on the alarm function of the radar device; if anything changes regarding the course or the wind, I usually can notice it at once. While asleep, I unconsciously register all the noises around me so if anything changes I am awake instantly. At times when there are no waves flooding into the cockpit and there is a beautiful starry sky, I sleep in the cockpit. But for the past two nights the sky was very cloudy and I could not see any difference between the sky or the sea, everything around Guppy was just pitch-black. Last night there was a beautiful phosphorescent trail (a path of light) behind the boat, and whenever Guppy cut hard through a wave, the water around us lightened up; that is so beautiful. This morning the boat looked like a battlefield, there were dead flying fishes lying everywhere. The wind now pushes us to an average speed of 7 knots towards Sint Maarten, and with 1460 nautical miles [2704 kilometres; 1680 land miles] to go, I am making very good progress.
