From our snug anchorage in Honningdalsvagen we continued our journey to Geiranger through the fjords, slowly the mountains rose bigger and steeper, Guppy being completely dwarfed by the sheer enormousness of the cliffs and mountains around us. Waterfalls started to appear at every bend and became more and more stunning as we continued our way inland.
Lucas and Marius sailed the minicat for parts of fjords. The wind is either gone, or a lot and with or against us. Following the curves of the fjords. So sometimes we sailed and sometimes we used the iron sail 😉
We took our time, slowing down at some waterfalls and keeping pace with the minicat. Hence is took us the entire day to do the 30nm stretch to Geiranger.
The following day a cruise ship arrived which spit out a hoard of people crowding the little village. But we quickly walked past them and up the hill. It only took us about 10-15 minutes of walking to be out of the hoards and truly enjoy the scenery and beauty of our surroundings. We had planned to hike up to the storseterfossen, but got distracted when we walked past signs to a viaferrata and ziplining area. We all decided that would be really fun to do so we had a little detour. Climbing and ziplining over fast running rivers and waterfalls.
Once we had dropped off al our climbing gear again some of us still wanted to continue our hike up to the storseterfossen so we split up. With part of the group heading back into town, strolling around and going to some of the souvenir shops while the other part of the group hiked up the 560m. Of course me being me I much prefer hikes, nature and waterfalls over souvenir shops so I can’t say much about that nor the town. But the hike was amazing. The views where stunning but the best part was the waterfall, which is another stunning and fast flowing fall but has a cave behind it which allows you to walk behind the waterfall. Pretty cool 🙂 We came back down around 5pm, most of the tourists had retreated and the town was back to it’s quiet and tranquil self.
Today we sailed back to the anchorage in Honningdalsvagen. Again sailing some of the parts and motoring others. This time Marius and Josef went sailing on the minicat. There was a strong breeze, 25knots, from behind and they were flying down the fjords. Of course this wind requires utmost attention when sailing a dinghy and one little gust send them gybing and then upside down. Plunging both of them into the cold waters of the fjord. They did very well getting the minicat upright again and bravely continued sailing for a bit longer before coming back to warm up. Apparently they had warmed up enough by the time we reached the Anchorage because right after dinner the minicat and the optimist were launched again 🙂
