The alarm clock wakes me up, lying in my warm, dry and not salty bed, as I listen to all the familiar sounds Guppy makes… the trickling sound of the small waves flowing along her hull that tells me exactly how fast she is going, the familiar jarring of the mizzen, the rythm of the spinnaker pole moving up and down… There is no need to go outside, everything is going fine. Guppy’s movements have not changed much but I can tell that the wind has weakened a little and that we are going at 3 knots heading in the right direction. However, I get up to do my usual round. Everything is alright, ‘Gup’ is softly going forward under a beautiful starry sky, swaying gently. I get back into bed. Usually in the evening the wind picks up pulling us faster ahead but during the day there is just enough to keep the sails filled and not flapping. Sometimes I try adjust the sails to make us go faster, but mostly I simply enjoy the endless silky blue ocean and the quiet peace that it brings …
