After doing my last interview in the Canary Islands for a German tv-show, I finally returned to Guppy. My return didn’t go as smoothly as planned. I enjoyed my time in the Canary Islands, being able to meet up with friends from last year. Friday the 30th of March I boarded a plane to Madrid. The flight was delayed by an hour, consequently I missed my connecting flight to Amsterdam. The next flight available appeared to be the morning after, and so I missed my connecting flight from Amsterdam to Bonaire as well! To top it off, there were no more flights to Bonaire for the entire upcoming week. I decided to inform about what flights were further available and luckily managed to catch a flight to… Curacao. At least it was a lot closer to home than where I was at the time. I booked the ticket and ran to the other end of the airport to catch my flight.
Ten hours later I arrive in Curacao, relieved to be closer te Guppy. All that was left was to catch a flight to Bonaire, and I figured it would be easy. Of course the last flight had just left, so I had to wait another 10 hours. Time passed and within 15 minutes of boarding the plane I was in Bonaire. First there was land, and then as we neared the island I saw Guppy’s masts.
3 days of traveling and only 6 hours of sleep took it’s toll on me, but I was excited to be back home. My relief wouldn’t last long though, as my luggage would only arrive on the next flight. No chance to sleep as yet, and 4 hours later I finally managed to pick up my suitcases.
After all that I slept for 20 hours straight, and treated myself to a decent meal, a welcome change for all the airline food I’d been living on. Besides being busy with writing my book and doing schoolwork, I am now working on Guppy to get her ready to set sail once again.
