Our crossing to Norway was lovely, a gentle breeze from beam reach pushing us across some left over cross waves as the Faroe islands slowly dissapear on the horizon. Another reason I love sailing. You get enough time to look at the last destination before looking forward to the next. And in between, there is time to process all of the things we have seen and done. A little moment of peace, where it is just us, Guppy and the elements.
The wind veered to be right from behind and we had to gybe a few times but other than that it was a good, peaceful and fast crossing. We arrived into the fjords late in the evening, continuing to our anchorage through the night. Being so northerly and right on midsummer it doesn’t get dark at all which makes planning arrivals a little easier. We dropped anchor at Raudøyna island. And stayed there for two nights. Cleaning Guppy, taking in the scenery and basking in the sun! Finally a full day of amazing warm sun shining on us. After a few weeks of clouds, rain and meagre watery sunshine poking through the clouds every now and then this was absolutely wonderfull. The boys went out fishing with Sander and came back with a good catch of Cod. We decided to make Kibbeling ( cod pieces fried in a specific batter) and homemade fries. It took up a good portion of the day to make, everyone was involved in some part of the meal and we all agreed that this was the absolute best meal we have had on this trip so far!
From Raudøyna we headed further into the fjord, sailing up all the way to Geiranger. We had planned to be there on a day without cruise ships, being able to take in the breathtaking views and picturesque scenery without the big walls of the ships and masses of people. Geiranger turned out to be a magical stopover. We went to the ziplining park, climbing and ziplining over the wild tumbling river. Very graciously made possible to everyone by https://www.fireflysportstesting.com/ ! Who paid for a large portion of this awesome activity for everyone. Thank you! We walked around town, did some small hikes and a larger one with incredible views into the fjord.
Additionally, Rib Geiranger offered us a ride on one of their fast ribs zooming through the fjords and dropping us off at the start of the hiking trail. We got to see the fjords, waterfalls and mountains from a lot of different angles!
After a few days it was time to leave this place again and we sailed out of the fjords, seeking shelter in Hareid from a low that was making it’s way north. Bringing a lot of wind and rain with it. A good time to decompress and let all our new experiences in. From Hareid we started making our way south. Stopping at a few little places, one of which was Alden. We had stopped at Alden last year but didn’t get to go ashore. Now we planned a little more time on this cool little island. With an anchor from the bow and the stern tied up to the rocks Guppy layed peacefully in the anchorage as we hiked up to the top of Alden. Only 480m high and a 1,5hr hike to the top, but giving us a wonderfull 360degrees view. We crossed little streams and Marie found the first blue berry bushes as we hiked up. So in no time all of us had slowed our pace as we were plucking blue berries and munching on them while hiking up. On our way down we stopped and all gathered blue berries which were made into very yummy blue berry muffins as we got back onboard. I love to be able to see things grow in nature, to have food that is so fresh and just like the homemade fries and kibbeling really appreciate the whole effort that goes into catching or plucking and making these wonderfull homemade meals. Nature is such an amazing thing!
