Rounding Cape Agulhas
25th November 2011
A very heavy night and day, but arrived into Cape Town safe and well
27th November 2011Getting into rougher weather
For the first time since our departure from the Netherlands Guppy is sailing on a northerly course. With a 25 knots wind coming from behind we are heading for the Cape of Good Hope. It is cloudy today so I can barely see the shore just five nautical miles away – exactly as in all the stories that are told about the Cape. Getting by the Cape is a very special feeling for me – this is the moment in my journey that I have been anticipating all along and now I am living it. This afternoon a helicopter emerged from the clouds, circled Guppy for half an hour, at first high above and then flying lower…Guppy and I are now alone sailing the ever growing waves. The weather forecast calls for a very rough night with 35 knots winds and five metres waves so we’ll see what gives – I have catched up on some sleep today so … Cape Agulhas is definitely behind us and so too is the Indian Ocean. Thank you very much Abby [Sunderland] for your congratulations on my indian ocean crossing. Gup and I decided to just go for it!
