To my surprise a nice breeze came in yesterday evening that got even stronger during the night. With the strong wind coming diagonally from behind we dashed forward over the bumpy sea at 7 knots. The wind came but the sun has left… maybe taking with it the outboard engine’s oil! As I was about to adjust the windvane at the stern I found the swim platform all covered with oil … which normally would be inside the outboard. Since I have to stand on the swim platform each time I want to reach the windvane to change our course, which in itself is not so easily done, this time because of the oil I figured I had a 99 percent probability of going overboard… Thus a small and simple job became a little more difficult. But first I had to find out why the oil had run out of the engine. Looking carefully the reason why became quite evident: the drain plug had become loose… After dealing with this I was left with the less fun part of my ordeal to face… cleaning! And I still had to adjust the course…
